Tyre Wear Guide

How your tyres wear can tell you a lot about your vehicle — and uneven wear is often the first sign of an issue worth checking out.

Even wear across the tread

This is what you want to see: consistent wear across the full width of the tyre. It means your tyre pressure, alignment, and suspension are working well together.

Wear concentrated in the centre

If your tyre is wearing more in the middle of the tread than at the edges, it's often a sign of overinflation. Over-inflated tyres bulge slightly in the centre, so that's the part of the tread doing most of the work against the road.

Wear concentrated on the edges

If wear is showing up more on the outer edges with the centre still relatively deep, this usually points to underinflation. An underinflated tyre flexes more at the edges, wearing them down faster than the centre.

Why this matters

Correct tyre pressure isn't just about even wear — it affects your fuel economy, braking distance, and how your car handles, especially in the wet. Check your pressure monthly when the tyres are cold (before driving, or a few hours after), using the figures on the placard inside your driver's door.

If you're noticing uneven wear and aren't sure why, bring your vehicle in and we can check your pressures and alignment.
